Burlington, Vermont World Naked Bike Ride – June 7, 2008
Hello Everyone!
We did it! The Burlington, Vermont World Naked Bike Ride has come and gone once again.
The ride was an overwhelming success! While we don’t have an official count of riders as we are waiting for someone to send us the group photo so we can count, but we had roughly 100 people taking part to spread the message of the World Naked Bike Ride.
For the past 3 years I have posted a summary of the ride but the summary is mostly the same each year. We had a great time, got tremendous support from the riders, onlookers, local businesses, visitors to Burlington and the Burlington Police. The crowds lining the streets cheered and clapped, hooting, hollering and whistling, cars went by us beeping their horns, people in cars yelling support as they passed. We heard only two or three negative comments from people along the way but overall the crowds of many hundreds of people were supportive and why wouldn’t they be…this IS Vermont after all.
Montpelier also held it’s second Bike Ride and had about 40 people ride with them.
While we wait for June 2009 to get here for our next Bike Ride, please remember the messages of the World Naked Bike Ride……the need for less dependency on Oil, the need for more bicycle use including more bicycle lanes on the streets of our cities and more body positive attitudes.
Since my message today is reaching not only people in Vermont but people in every State and around the world, let me remind you that if you don’t have a Naked Bike Ride in your City, please visit the World Naked Bike Ride main website at http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org and find out how to start a bike ride in your city, wherever you may be. It’s really easy and a lot of fun and you’ll be helping spread the word about the need for less dependency on Oil. That’s a message that people need now more than ever before.
Finally, I have added a brand new photo album on our main website at http://www.worldnakedbikerideburlington.com
I have already posted over 100 photos that were contributed by the riders and supporters. I also added a short video of the start of the ride to the main page that someone was kind enough to send me. If you have photos or videos of the ride to share with everyone, please email them to me at john@nakedinvermont.com
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Bike Ride, the co-organizers, onlookers and supporters of the Ride this past Saturday, June 7, 2008!
We hope you will all join us again in June 2009 for our 5th annual World Naked Bike Ride. As always, it will be a smashing success and loads of fun! Keep the excitement alive and stay in touch between now and the 2009 ride!
We’ll miss you all! See you next year….if not sooner!
+PEACE+
